How? Did you try everyone else's food that night?
Yes! I truly believe Carla's was really, really good. Carla did a great dish. I didn't like Hosea's. I think it was no good. I truly believe that. But it's people's opinions, you know? The Longview is a two-story shingle-style beach house. This cottage would be equally at home in the Cape Cod area, by a lake in the Northwest, or in almost any other retreat setting.
Nostalgic plant shelves underscore several of the Craftsman-style window sets. Lined with pots of geraniums, petunias or impatiens, these will add vibrant dashes of color during the summer months. Maybe the deer won't even notice them at this level.

THE division of labor in my kitchen used to be quite traditional. I did the day-to-day cooking and grocery shopping because I had shorter work hours than my husband, Peter. I was a serviceable cook, with a knack for soups and stews and concoctions of fresh garden vegetables. Peter helped with cleanup and pitched in for big gatherings. Given that we owned a microwave oven and both liked leftovers, this arrangement worked for years.
That was then. Read more...
